Gillingham v Crewe Preview
Gillingham v Crewe Preview

Gillingham will have to put their injury nightmare behind them if they want to make it five wins on the trot against Crewe on Saturday.

An already problematic situation has got even worse for Gills manager Andy Hessenthaler over the past week with almost fifteen players unavailable through one reason or another.

So yet again it seems as though Hessenthaler will have to go with whoever is available to him as The Gills look to climb back into the play-off places.

From those that started against Barnet on Tuesday night, Garry Richards will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a double fracture to his fibula.

Meanwhile, loan signing Jordan Obita is likely to miss the game after contracting tonsilitis. The Reading winger was more than useful against the Bees and will be a big miss for Hessenthaler.

Long term absentees Ross Flitney, Barry Fuller and Adam Birchall all remain sidelined, however there was better news that both Andy Frampton and Matt Fish are nearing a return to first team action. However, neither will be fit enough in time to face Crewe.

Simon King could shake off a bout of illness in time to partner Connor Essam in the heart of defence, whilst Jack Evans may well be kept out of returning by a groin injury.

Curtis Weston (knee), Gavin Tomlin (hamstring), Jack Payne (knee) and Jo Kuffour (knee) all seem set to miss out once again, although Danny Kedwell may be handed a start alongside youngster Ashley Miller despite going off at half time on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Dennis Oli will once again be in the squad despite being made available for loan with the striker showing he wants to stay at Priestfield by scoring against Barnet.

Joe Martin serves the second game of his three match suspension so Danny Jackman will once again occupy the left back berth, while Danny Spiller could be handed a start after coming off the bench on Tuesday, some six months after his last game for The Gills.

So it could be a case of the side picking itself this weekend and could look like this:

Gazzaniga, C Lee, Essam, King, Jackman, Whelpdale, O Lee, Montrose, Spiller, Kedwell, Miller.

Subs: Hawkes, Davies, Brown, Oli, Dack.
